Christina Ricci transformations

Christina Ricci has a simple beauty philosophy: "I don't think you should try to look like you're not wearing makeup," she has said. "What's the point? You might as well put makeup on and have fun with it." The edgy star has been in the public eye for almost all of her 27 years and isn’t afraid to go from goth to glam and back again. "Her look is hard rock meets couture," her hairstylist Richard Marin has said. "One day, she’s super funky; the next, she’s in a gown." It’s no surprise then that Ricci recently braved a daring new haircut. As makeup artist Beth Katz has observed, "She's very comfortable with herself."
1990: Ricci is 10 years old when she appears opposite Cher in Mermaids. She later appreciates the archival aspect of her first films: "We didn't take that many pictures in my family. Now I have action shots."
1995: She plays a spooky teen in Casper. Her Opposite of Sex co-star Lisa Kudrow would later say, "She's done a lot of racy things, but it hasn't seemed like a total shock because she always played these mature, cynical kids."
1997: Ricci seduces a pair of brothers in The Ice Storm. "I didn't see anything that reminded me of a little girl in Christina," says photographer VĂ©ronique Vial. "Even the way she smokes a cigarette reminds me of older women you see in Paris"

2000: She lightens up with a wispy new cut and highlights. "Her change was intentional," says her hairstylist Richard Marin. "She wanted a softer, more feminine look."
2002: Ricci goes back to the dark side. Says colorist Brad Johns: "She smolders in black. It's the color she should always be."
2007: The actress debuted her edgy new cut at a Hugo Boss fashion show.
